Grid Development for Modeling Two-Dimensional Inlet Circulation

Abstract

This Coastal Engineering Technical Note (CETN) provides guidance for developing computational grids for numerical modeling of water level and current in and around inlets. It applies to grid development for two-dimensional (depth-integrated) triangular finite-element and rectilinear finite-difference models. Topics covered are grid resolution, representation of structures and boundary conditions, and considerations for stability and computational efficiency.
