Directional Array for Near Vertical Incident Skywave (NVIS): A NISE Funded Basic Research Project

Abstract

A two- and four-horizontal dipole array is used to achieve higher efficiency and vertical gain for several conductivies. These designs are compared to a single horizontal dipole. The four-horizontal dipole array can be pointed 34 away from the vertical. The efficiency was reduced by only 1 dB. The surface wave was computed for all of the designs. The peak magnitude of the surface wave does explain the improved antenna efficiency.
