MIT Lincoln Laboratory Annual Report 2008: Technology in Support of National Security

Abstract

Lincoln Laboratory s reputation has been built on the strength and quality of its technical staff. As we approach six decades of service to the nation, I am pleased to report that the staff continues to carry on the Laboratory s legacy of technical excellence, innovation, and integrity. The Laboratory is operating near peak levels and continues to develop advanced technology solutions for many of the nation s most complex national security problems. This report highlights Laboratory accomplishments for the past year, including new work in homeland protection, counterterrorism, and network-centric sensor systems. The Laboratory is also beginning initiatives in the areas of disaster relief, environmental sensing, and energy technology. As the Laboratory s strong national security programs evolve, we are continuing to leverage defense technology to support nondefense national needs. As in the past, current Lincoln Laboratory programs include a significant level of system analysis, prototype hardware and software development, and field testing.
