Medical Robotic and Telesurgical Simulation and Education Research

Abstract

Telesurgery: Years of experience do not improve ability to manage communication latency. Years of experience in laparoscopy do not transfer to better performance in robotic surgery. Current telecommunication networks are capable of supporting safe robotic telesurgery. Surgical Rehearsal: System capabilities report on three simulators written and submitted. Subjective user evaluations of three simulators underway. Protocol written for objective skills improvement on simulators. . Robotic Curriculum: Developed curriculum for robotic surgeon certification. Developed psychomotor testing device. Both will be in validation trials in coming months. Automatic Surgery: Government recommends not pursuing this experiment.
