Results of a Feasibility Study on Sensor Data Fusion for the CP-140 Aurora Maritime Patrol Aircraft

Abstract

This report presents the final results of a study on the feasibility and usefulness of data fusion for the CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft. Relevant sensor fusion concepts and terminology have been defined along with a description of the CP-1 40 operational environment and information sources. An analysis of applicable sensor fusion processes is presented followed by a discussion on the expected performance improvements. Finally, a three step incremental approach is proposed with recoverable steps where different level of fusion sophistication can be implemented based on the availability of the technology and the actual status of the sensors on the aircraft.
