Effect of Propeller-Axis of Attack on Thrust Distribution Over the Propeller Disk in Relation to Wake-Survey Measurement of Thrust

Abstract

This is an investigation of the disposition and number of rakes necessary to measure propeller thrust and variation of thrust distribution, over propeller disk with angle of pitch of propeller thrust axis. Tests made at low Mach number, for low and high blade angles with propeller operating at three small angles of pitch, showed that energy distribution in wake prohibits use of single rake in wind-tunnel tests. With energy distribution in wake of symmetrical, two diametrically opposed survey rakes are satisfactory.
