A Summary of Several Parametric Investigations of the Effect of Varying the Material Properties of a Heavy Metal Penetrator

Abstract

The two-dimensional HELP computer program was employed to augment two earlier parametric investigations involving the effects of varying the material properties of a heavy metal penetrator on the normal penetration of a 5.08-cm- thick steel plate. The projectile material properties that were varied were the shear yield strength, the tensile failure threshold, the shear modulus, and the bulk modulus. Conclusions were drawn from analysis of the results from the current calculational effort as well as those from the two previous studies.
