Calculations of the Performance of a Compression Ignition Engine-Compressor Turbine Combination. 2 - Performance of Complete Combination
Abstract
Tests were conducted on compression-ignition engine to determine effects of fuel air ratio, compression ration, exhaust back pressure, and engine speed on performance. Maximum cylinder pressure was assumed at 1400 psi constant. Calculation methods and results are discussed. At 2200 rpm, compressor efficiency of 0.70, and turbine efficiency of 0.65, and minimum net specific fuel consumption of 0.40 lb/hp-hr was obtained. Gearing turbine to engine has only slight improvement over engine using supercharger with closed waste gate.
