Image Charge Forces Inside Conducting Boundaries

Abstract

Evaluation of the force on a charge particle due to the surface charge distributions it induces in nearby conductors is generally a challenging problem. We show these forces can be evaluated explicitly and fairly simply in a number of elementary, but important cases.
