Ground Based Midcourse

Abstract

GMD includes development and delivery of GMD Ground Systems, Ground Based Interceptors, and Systems engineering and Program Management. Development objectives for GMD include: - Improve homeland defensive capability against an advancing threat that is increasing both in number of missiles and complexity - Modernize the GMD Weapon System to provide improved fire control and communications with reduced obsolescence risk for increased availability for the Warfighter - Develop Ground Based Interceptor software enhancements that improve reliability and discrimination - Provide GMD and Ground Based Interceptor SLEP upgrades - Improve GMD Models & Simulations (M&S) - Provide engineering support for participation with other Missile Defense System assets in system tests to demonstrate Missile Defense System capabilities. GMD will continue the effort to develop and field improved standalone and integrated Missile Defense System discrimination capabilities which will improve the System's ability to identify lethal reentry vehicles and non-lethal threat objects for enhanced interceptor performance.
